2015 in Games so Far – Mid May

It’s only May, so far to early to do a games of the year report like I did for 2014, but the year is shaping up pretty good so far. I’m just going to hit a few highlights here and there.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,  so far is a strong contender for game of the year. Beyond the amazing graphics, the game has a nice depth to it, great story, acting and more. I think it’ll be hard to push it off the game of the year list.

Rebel Galaxy is also shaping up great. I’ve already done an early look at Rebel Galaxy. Should the game ship this year, then it’ll be on the short list for sure. It was just a great deal of fun to play… It might not have the depth of Witcher 3 or some of the others, but it has fun in droves.

Heroes of the Storm comes out later this year so it will finally get on the short list as well. It’s in free open beta now, so if you haven’t tried it, now is the time to jump in.

Killing Floor 2 will also be on the short list for sure. I did a thoughts and video from the stress test about Killing Floor 2. The game is still fairly early access and not all the maps or perks and the like are there yet, so those wanting a finished game should wait, but if you want fun…

ARK: Survival Evolved is a newly announced game (well new to me at least) that will be hitting Early Access on Steam in June. It’s a PvP, survival, shooter with dinosaurs… My initial fears were that it’d be another Stomping Lands (something that went to Steam Early Access and died soon after taking everyone’s money), but as I read more about it, the more it became apparent this isn’t going to be like that. So the excitement for it is real.

Black Desert Online… I haven’t really covered it much on this site like I planned yet, but this may be one of my two most anticipated MMOs, though we’ll probably just see Beta this year, and not likely release so it probably won’t make the game of the year list on that ground… I’ve done a small series of videos about Black Desert that show off a bit more of the game than I’m going to go into here.

Blade and Soul is finally coming out to NA/EU after being out in Asia and Russia for ages. I’ve done a series of videos of Blade and Soul too. It’s the other MMO that I’m looking forward to. It should be out in Beta, but might not be out in time for the final list.

There are a few other MMO’s and RPG’s I’m looking forward to, but this is supposed to be a quick review so I’ll skip them for this quick article…

Cities: Skylines makes for the best city simulator out there.

Armello, is a nice board game in video game form. There isn’t a board game like it, but it has a good board game feel to it, and yes, this is a good thing.

I know I’m missing a ton of games from what I’m looking forward to, or what I’ve played but I’m forgetting to put on the list here, but this is my quick 10 to 15 minute take on the games so far this year… a few others I won’t link, but will probably be on the list as well: Invisible Inc, Arena of Fate, Crowfall, Gigantic, World of Warships, Dirty Bomb, FIFA 16, Dreadnaught, Fractured Space, Orcs Must Die Unchained, Kerbal Space Program (now that it’s actually out of Early Access), Pillars of Eternity, and a ton of others… it’s really looking to be a great yer.
