The Stomach Flu Sucks

We all have a case of the stomach flu. Sara and Ari have been sick off and on for a week or so now, and it got me today in a big way. Time to use some disinfectant wipes on common surfaces I guess… after all how many times does a door knob get cleaned [...]

I Got a Go Board

My dad had given us a gift certificate for the mall, so I used a bit of it at the game kiosk to buy a Go Board. As a bonus, since the holidays are over they have everything discounted so the whole thing came under $20 even with tax.

Go Game with Wood Board
That is the [...]

Journalist Loophole Closed

I reported a short time ago that the Journalist Loophole was close to closing, well, it’s official now, it is closed, or at least will be in 90 days. Taft actually signed the HB9 into law. Perhaps it was fear of another veto override.
Finally, in 90 days, newspapers won’t be able to demand the [...]

Ari Pictures Uploaded

I uploaded more pictures of Ari, and pictures by Ari… Just click one of the pictures in the sidebar, then click “brian_a_thomas’ photostream” for all the pictures, or “Pictures of Ari” to limit it to just pictures of Ari and by Ari. Sorry for the long delay… These ones are mostly Christmas pictures, though [...]

Ari’s Christmas

I have already detailed a few of the things Ari got, here are a few more:
Clothes…
Boggle Jr.. I recommend this game. Even with Ari not yet being 3, he can play so long as it is somewhat guided. Say we put the word Sun in the holder. We point to each letter and spell and [...]

Comment Spam

While upgrading the site, I had to turn of Akismet for a few minutes, in that time 2 comment spams slipped through. In the short time it has been installed over all, it has caught 14,467 comment/trackback spams. I have to say, I am glad I am not doing the spam tracking myself, since it [...]

I recently upgraded to WordPress 2.0.5 but kept getting the following error:
302 Found
The document has moved here.
Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
That is the error in Firefox, apparently the error in IE shows up as:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Most likely causes:

I got my first teaching game of Go today, but before I did that I played yet another bot on KGS. I paid no real attention to the marking of dead stones at the end and hit done quickly. Bad mistake, as the game thought Black (the bot) won by 360.5, when the reality was [...]

Ari’s Thomas Set

I have already talked about Ari’s play tent which we got for him for Christmas.
My dad got Ari a Thomas the Tank Engine play set, particularly the Thomas the Tank Water Tower Steam Set. So the blue track set it is. There are lots of cool things we can add to it. (The set seems [...]

Trying to Write My Own Widget

Calling all Wordpress Widget experts, I am trying to write my own widget, but I am not having luck. I get it to show up in the plugins and activate it, but it doesn’t show on the widget list.
I know about Chris Johnson’s Tag Cloud Widget, but the cloud doesn’t show for one thing, and [...]

A New Big Badda Boom

Sara was visiting a friend, and got lost on the way home. While looking at the map… boom… crash… I guess the other car was barely scratched, but there was a a small amount of damage to our car, the grill is gone and the hood latch broke…
While on the way home from that, Sara [...]

I mentioned in the Christmas list post, that Ari loves Thomas the Tank Engine.
The other day we went to a local shop in North Canton, called Toys and Trains. There they had a Thomas the Tank Engine Table top (basically a piece of plywood with a landscape painted onto it and placed in a Thomas [...]

Ari’s Play Tent

We went to Toys-R-Us the other day and got Ari his Christmas present. We got the Neon Hide-Me Tent & Tunnel Combination. There are a few cool things that can be added to it, such as more tunnels (follow the link and click on the link for Pacific Play Tents) and the like. I thought [...]

Great Go Blog

ChiyoDad Learns Go is my favorite Go Blog. It is a very good website, especially for beginners. It is where I first learned of Hikaru No Go, which I will probably talk about at some future point (warning, don’t read past the Spoilers warning on that page until you have finished the series). Anyhow, ChiyoDad [...]

I first heard of Go eons ago when Atari was the king of video games. I knew they were named for a Go term, but not much more than that. When they made their Tengen division, I again learned it was a Go term, but thought nothing more of it for a long time.
When Pente [...]

Journalist Loophole Close to Closing

The journalist loophole in Ohio’s CCW law is about to close, depending on if Taft passes it or vetoes it. Since he just got overridden on another CCW law, he may pass this one, time will tell.
Right now newspapers can get a full list of all CCW holders and print that list. The new bill [...]

I was looking ahead a bit in my reading of The Second Book of Go (Beginner and Elementary Go Books) and came across the following (I changed it slightly from the book by adding an extra letter, but otherwise is the same save this one is in color rather than 2d black and white):

Here we [...]
