25 Year Anniversary of 9/11

So I guess one should remark on the 25th anniversary of 9/11. The usual, where and what.

I was at work, at Borders Books and Music in North Canton. I’d have been 32. I was at the information desk. Then I got a call from one of the managers, who’s name escapes me right now, which is odd, because she was one of my favorite people there. She liked X-Files, and other stuff like that, so lots of stuff to talk about off and on. If she wasn’t a manager, and I wasn’t chasing someone else…

Anyhow, she calls, and says a plane has hit the World Trade Center. And didn’t think much of it. It was one of those, it was bound to happen sooner or later. I figured it was a small plane.

Then she called and said a second plane has hit the other tower. At this point, it was obvious something was happening. I went to the break room, turned on the TV there, put it on the news. Then came out to the TV over the information desk, and while we didn’t have cable at the bookstore, it had a long cable to get to the VCR or whatever it was we were using to show stuff on it. That made a decent enough antenna, and got it on the local channel news. And it was just shocking to see what was happening.

Within an hour or two, the store emptied out, and nobody came in. Everyone was obviously just at home, watching the TV. And eventually they closed the store.

I went home, and watched TV. I’d have to think I called my mother, maybe my dad, and maybe sister, but I don’t remember the rest of the day. It was the two calls to the store, watching TV at the information desk, not really doing any other real work, as there wasn’t much else to do. Then going home, watching TV, and the numbness that everyone else felt.

So not the most exciting stories, as that was all I remember.
