WordPress 2.o Beta 2 is out
Nov 26th
Seems they are skipping WordPress 1.6 and jumping to WordPress 2.0. Currently they are up to Beta 2. I was looking forward to upgrading to 1.6 when they sprang this on us. I used a couple demo pages and I like lots of the improvements. One of the changes I am glad to see is the Insert Link box now asks for a title tag. It doesn’t default to the text inside the link if you leave it blank, but at least it prompts for it now. This makes keeping it Section 508 compatible easier. Great job to the WordPress team. I doubt I’ll jump in on Beta 2 however.
Edit to add: Oh, and it now has a post preview!… Oh, wait… so does 1.5.2, just looks nicer and noticeable under 2.0.
I am linked
Nov 26th
Once in a while it is cool to see who is linking to you. One of my more recent ones was from HD Beat, I am linked right before the reader’s comments in regard to the whole Blu-ray vs HD-DVD thing. I also got picked up by the Bloggers Blog, again near the bottom, this one about the Christmas lights I blogged about a few days ago. I also got linked from a French website, nearly as I can tell it was about the XBox 360 viral marketing campaign, but I couldn’t find the story. There are a couple others, one about my Freecell post… Anyhow. Those are the ones reported by Technorati.
Flickr Images now on the sidebar
Nov 10th
As you can see, there are images coming from Flickr on the side bar. At the moment they are Ari pictures. Click the pictures to go to the Flickr account and see all I have (which as of this writing isn’t much yet).
Links Page up
Oct 27th
I have a Links page up. This is to help ease the need to link to say the TiVo Community Forum every time I cite them in a Lost post or something.
Some Link exchanges may go there.
Perhaps my Blogroll…
Categories moved to top of posts
Oct 20th
I did some editing of the PHP source code for WordPress here and moved the categories listing to the top, added the who it was posted by… and at one point had the time, but the time is off by about 2 hours, which is odd since it is set for Eastern… of course it may be getting the time stamp from the server, in which case… I am not sure where it is.
New Categories
Oct 16th
I have added a few new catagories so the General posts don’t get so crowded, and to make finding stuff easier.
I added a TV Shows section, and moved Lost to there and added Battlestar Galactica, who knows, I may add more…
I added a section on HDTV, and under it added Blu-ray and HD-DVD.
I added a section on Gaming, and under it Board & Card Games, PC Gaming, PS3 (Playstation 3), and XBox 360.
After all that I edited entries as far back as 2 September 2004 to be sure they were in the right categories. Much like adding old posts, I’ll sooner or later edit past that point to be sure everything is in the right spot… I still haven’t found the old old posts from this site.
Busy posting day
Oct 10th
Today was a busy posting day, nearly 9 or 10 posts counting this one for today alone! Yes, I was bored… played with the baby and posted… that was about it. So if you haven’t been here for a few days, you may have lots of reading to do.
More old posts added
Oct 10th
I have added more old posts to the WordPress database, now with posts back to 18 July 2004…
It looks like the furthest back that I’ll be able to do is, 23 February 2003… At least at the moment… I am sure I got a copy of posts before that somewhere. Heck, the Wayback Machine archive for this site goes back to 17 October 2002…
Okay, found entries to 8 March 2002, but not further then that… and I know I had lots of posts older then that, since I talk about Sara at least as far back as 24 March 2002… dang… that would put our first date back in February 2002… 2002… has it been that long? Doesn’t seem that long ago to our first date… to my last date with… the girl before Sara… heck… even to the girl that I dated during a break with that girl… Time is passing me by…
Anyhow… Off to find an older copy of the website so the really old posts can be added… Not that it truly matters, just would be nice to have a full archive in the database… as if it matters… I do have the old Brian’s Dreary Homepage stuff, but none of the old Brian A. Thomas .com posts, pre-Sara… which is odd, since I know I had them at one point, and I don’t know why they would be gone now…
Way too much work to enter those posts in… I wonder if I can make a program to automate it? At least to clean some of the stuff up…
New Scripturizer Remix Version
Oct 9th
There is a cool new Remix version of the Scripturizer plugin that I use here. When I get a chance I may have to give it a try. While I generally don’t use the ESV version, the idea of using the text inline may be kind of cool.
Of course then again… I am on the credits of Scripturizer as I helped them make it XHTML compliant…
Anyhow the details are at his page, under the post Scripturizer Remix. I learned about it thanks to a comment he left in one of my older posts about Scripturizer.
Upgraded
Sep 25th
I upgraded WordPress today (25 September). So if you were here between 12 noon and 1:15 p.m. today, and things looked funky, that is why. Everything should be working… on your end anyhow.
Into the Wayback Machine
Aug 28th
Even my humble site made it into the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine, starting 17 October 2002.
What is cool, is that is the date they archived the whole site. So there are entries going back as far as 8 March 2002. Some pages are missing, but for the most part it is fairly complete.
Upgraded
Jul 17th
I recently upgraded to the newest version of WordPress, so if anything funny happens, sorry. I’ll fix things as I can.
More old posts
May 3rd
I added a couple more posts from August of 2004, there are still lots more to add. I have to add posts all the way back to 15 February 2003.
PHP editing of the site
May 2nd
Seems the site was not validating as valid XHTML. I had to edit some of the PHP code to fix it. Seems when I added the calendar back in (it is off by default in WordPress 1.5) I forgot to keep it in the proper flow of things. I also had to edit the Amazon Wishlist program to become valid XHTML. Anyhow, things validate again… if anyone cared.
Upraded site
Apr 2nd
I have updated to WordPress 1.5, so it may take a while for me to reinstall some of the old stuff I used to use with the old version…
There have been lots of bugs with the upgrade, but I think it is coming together now. We’ll see, be sure to email me if you notice any problems compared to the old site.
Adding old posts
Jan 30th
I am starting to manually add old posts so they can be searched directly using WordPress here. So far I added back to 21 August 2004. Once I am done, I’ll give the old posts pages another month or so, but then I’ll take them off-line in favor of the WordPress generated versions. This will take a while as there are posts on the old format going back to 2002.
edit to add: Posts dating from 5 October 2004 and back were from the old site, either powered by Radio Userland or by hand.
Comment spam of the momment
Jan 17th
The comment spam is getting irritating, but at times funny.

I don’t know when I’ll install that anti-spam thing.
Valid XHTML
Jan 1st
I finally had a chance to look over and edit the PHP code, and get the site to come up as valid XHTML. Seems there was an error in the way the Amazon Wish List plugin was handling things. The other problem was with blockquotes, but that was fixed by writing the post better.
Do you Yahoo!?
Nov 22nd
Do you use My Yahoo! for you homepage? If so, you can now get updates from Brian A. Thomas .com sent to your My Yahoo page. Simply upgrade to the new My Yahoo! if you haven’t already done so, then Add Content, then Add RSS by URL, and copy/paste the following URL: http://www.brianathomas.com/feed/rss2/ into the space provided. You can then configure it to display 1 to 10 articles from today, past week, past 1 to 6 days, any date, if it will show just the headline or the headline and a short summary of the post… Very cool, especially for those who haven’t gotten an RSS Aggregator (reader) yet, and again I say get yourself FeedDemon, best RSS Aggregator, bar none. Anyhow, the new feature of My Yahoo! should keep you from needing to check this page every day, just let them check for you.
Section 508, finally
Nov 16th
I finally fixed a PHP bug that was stopping this site from validating as Section 508 compliant.
Now I just need to chase down the XHTML Strict validation errors, then WAI errors and I should be good to go. Unfortunately, it isn’t easy, since the PHP scripts generate the page, I have to find where it is generating the error, then find a way to fix it.
Why should anyone care? Well, once we get to WAI, you should be able to access this page using any kind of web accessible device, be it a PDA, web phone or any accessibility browser, and more… Okay so perhaps nobody visiting here actually needs that stuff, but it is good practice for me.
