On the Media Elites Struggle to Keep Ron Paul Under Wraps
May 11th
I just finished reading a great piece on the Media Elite’s attempts to keep Ron Paul hidden from Americans, and how ABC dismissed Ron Paul and censored comments about them, until the point they finally added Ron Paul to their list of candidates, but in a dismissive way. (Yahoo, after much time finally added Ron Paul to their list of candidates, earlier they had other less likely candidates listed.) Talking about ABC’s response to having to add Ron Paul, Jim Capo, author of the article points out:
There is one glaring fallacy of logic in the current ABC argument. There were almost 80,000 votes cast in the MSNBC poll just BEFORE the first televised debate. In that polling, the results came out just as the MSM media told us they should. McCain, Romney and Gulliani the leaders, Paul, Tancredo, Hunter and others just blips.
What ABC is trying to say now, however, is that those who cast these 80,000 votes suddenly evaporated and were mysteriously replaced by those coaxed on by a handful of Paul supporters and Internet savvy bloggers. (It is no shock that with this kind of reasoning a Digg post two days ago on the ABC news story already has 4,000 “diggs.”)
Let me offer a totally different made-up explanation for ABC that could have sold better. Most McCain, Romney and Giuliani supporters don’t pay attention to MSNBC and ABC. They are all over at Fox News being marketed information they already agree with. The MSNBC and ABC polls were driven by Democratic and unaffiliated voting types who simply discovered that Paul was the GOP candidate most like them. And, it certainly didn’t hurt that the questions and commentary in the MSNBC debate were moderated by a “liberal.”
Be sure to check out the full article for more details.
It’s not just those who want a constitutional government, but some on the left have also noticed the media blackout of Ron Paul. Need further proof, Ron Paul is a second-tier candidate, who if it wasn’t for the media blackout, would probably be a top tier candidate, yet the Associated Press ignores him in their article on second-tier candidates.
A Ron Paul Press Release About the Debate
May 8th
The Ron Paul campaign put out Press Release regarding the outstanding performance he did in the debate the other day.
Ron Paul Builds Momentum
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 8, 2007
ARLINGTON, VA – Congressman Ron Paul’s support has soared since the first Republican presidential debate. Conservative commentator John McLaughlin, host of “The McLaughlin Group," cited Ron Paul as having given "the best performance of the debate." In fact, the Paul campaign’s apparent strength has many other pundits scrambling to explain it. Paul campaign officials offer the following examples of the candidate’s rising success.
Since the debate on May 3, Ron Paul:
- Handily won two post-debate polls posted by event sponsor MSNBC
- Placed a close third (18%) in a post-debate poll on the conservative Drudge Report
- Won an ABCNews.com online debate poll with 84%
- Won a C-SPAN online GOP candidate poll with 69%
- Became the third most-mentioned person in the blogosphere, beating out Paris Hilton, according to the reputable Technorati.com
- Produced a YouTube.com video that was ranked the 8th most popular overall video, and the most-viewed political video
- Was featured, by popular demand, on the front of Digg.com
- Generated so many bulletin posts on MySpace.com that the site owner News Corp. blocked all additional posts about Dr. Paul
- Became a "most searched" term on Google and Yahoo!
- Saw a quadrupling of daily visitors to RonPaul2008.com
"These figures speak for themselves," said campaign chairman Kent Snyder. "Ron Paul has quickly become a strong contender for the GOP nomination because of his powerful message of freedom and limited government."
Great Ron Paul Interview

More details at Rescue US's post: NBC Rate The Candidates Paul Surges, Mitt Improved, Rudy and McCain Drop Like Rocks. A couple more good showings like that and hopefully the media will stop ignoring him and move him to the true first tier candidate that he deserves to be. It would be great to see McCain and Giuliani fall to the side while Paul takes over. Ron Paul is a guaranteed win for the Republican's. Near as I can see, he is the only one who we can say for sure would win the White House for them regardless of who the Dems put up. Congratulations Dr. Paul on the great numbers.
And remember:
Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record
He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch. He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.Congressman Paul introduces numerous pieces of substantive legislation each year, probably more than any single member of Congress.
Ron Paul, America's only hope for peace, prosperity and individual liberty.
Ron Paul Highlights From Debate
May 4th
A video of highlights from the Republican Debate at the Regan Library the other day has been posted. He wasn't as polished, perhaps, as some of the others, but spontaneous which lead to honesty, rather than just talking points to gain votes based on false promises. The only problem I have with the video is that they don't always say what he is responding to. For example there are times he is clearly replying to what one of the other candidates said, but we don't have an idea of what they said. They do show all the moderator asked questions however. Still it gives a quick idea of how he did in the debate.

I Just Noticed…
May 2nd
I just noticed now that the Ron Paul Rescue US blog, which I check out daily, along with the Daily Paul, is out of Phoenix (Rescue US, not Daily Paul), our hopeful future home. Wish I could go to your next meetup folks. I'll sadly be at work and miss the debate (not to mention in Ohio not Phoenix
), so I'll probably catch a YouTube posting of it, or record it on the ol' DVR (small unrelated aside, a DVR that isn't TiVo nearly sucks... TiVo spoiled me and I want it back). Anyhow, cool to see a nice Ron Paul community in Phoenix.
Okay, it's 2:30 am here, so random posts are to be expected. I am going to bed...
Ron Paul Update
May 1st
Ron Paul, America's only hope for peace, prosperity and liberty in a Presidential candidate, is improving in the regular, non-Internet polls. Still well below Rudy Giuliani and John McCain, but gaining.
On May 3rd, he'll be on a large televised debate from the Regan Library on MSNBC at 8 PM (ET). At that point, I should think he should start soaring in the polls as he finally gets the public exposure that he needs. The media machine which has been purposely snubbing him won't be able to do much at that point. He will also be at the June 5th debate in New Hampshire, which will air on CNN. In between the two is a debate in South Carolina on May 15th to air on Fox. At the moment Ron Paul hasn't been invited by Fox News. Odds are if he does well in the May 3rd debate, he'll be invited however, and if he doesn't you'll see a large Internet backlash against Fox since Ron Paul is a large favorite on the Internet. The fact that a news channel such as Fox gets to be the one who decides who is a "serious candidate" and in, and who is not in the debate this early in the campaign is absurd. Of course their main criteria seems to be who paid the South Carolina ballot fee and scoring above 1% in polls, both of which it appears Ron Paul is doing.
Meanwhile, check out these videos of a Ron Paul interview done from a college dorm room...yes, the first Presidential candidate interview from a college dorm room. They are below the break with a another video.

Go Ron!
Apr 19th
Ron Paul, America's only candidate who's policies would actually give us prosperity, peace and freedom, has spoke out on the tragedy in Virginia. Pointing out what should be obvious to all, but for a variety of reasons isn't, that had students and/or faculty had been allowed to have concealed guns, they could have ended the massacre.
"A concealed gun carried by a responsible person -- that might have ended the problem that they had at Virginia Tech with one person being killed or two people being killed."
Ron Paul: More Guns Will Deter Shootings. Amen to that.
The story doesn't mention it, but when Charles Whitman started his shooting spree from the bell tower in '66, he was slowed down greatly by students who went back, got their guns and started shooting back at him. This forced him to keep taking cover and saved a great many lives.
Meanwhile, there is a cool poster at Rescue US. That quotes Ron Paul on taxes: "When I say cut taxes, I don't mean fiddle with the code. I mean abolish the income tax and the IRS, and replace them with nothing." Can we get another Amen? As an aside, did you know that even if we got rid of the Federal Income Tax, not one government service would go away? The Federal Income Tax is perhaps one of the biggest cons pulled over on the American people, right up there with the Federal Reserve, fiat currency and the loss of the "gold standard" and many others that relate to the same core issue. As Thomas Jefferson said of banks: "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. Already they have raised up a monied aristocracy that has set the government at defiance. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people to whom it properly belongs."

A good little video about Freedom:

A reminder, while this isn't a Ron Paul ad, he is the only candidate that stands for freedom. All the other major party candidates stand for tramping over some freedoms somewhere for somebody.
Ron Paul at Farm Food Voices
Apr 13th
Ron Paul, America's best hope for peace, prosperity and freedom, spoke at Farm Food Voices back in February, an event for the small farm lobby. Here is a video of that event:

The organizers note:
Organized by the National Independent Consumers and Farmers Advocates Fund (http://www.nicfa.net ) we came to Washington so that small, independent, sustainable farmers and the communities they support would become real to Washington legislators. When legislators think "agriculture," they think multinational corporations, commodities, massive subsidies to massive companies who raise genetically modified grains and green pigs, who depend on poisons like insecticides, herbicides, pesticides, anhydrous ammonia (one of the key ingredients for methamphetamine) and raise animals in confinement conditions that leave them with compromised immune systems, and fragile health, then use massive doses of antibiotics. We are the small farmers who nurture and heal the land through careful, faithful stewardship of soil, plant and creature. We raise our crops and animals to have the robust immune systems nature provided. We are local, and we want to stay local.
More at the Daily Paul - Excellent Speech by Ron Paul where the organizers talk more about their goals, their opposition to National Animal Identification System (NAIS), a program that would put an RFID chip in every farm animal, including pets as they track them all.
Presidential Candidate Selector
Mar 23rd
It should come as no surprise, but the Presidential Candidate Selector scores Ron Paul as my top choice with a score of 100%. It will ask your thoughts on certain issues and then tells you which candidate, from the two main parties only, most closely matches your views on the subjects presented.
Ron Paul on the Coming Housing Bubble
Mar 20th
Ron Paul's Straight Talk this time around talks about the upcoming Housing Bubble. An excerpt:
But capitalism is not to blame for the housing bubble, the Federal Reserve is. Specifically, Fed intervention in the economy-- through the manipulation of interest rates and the creation of money-- caused the artificial boom in mortgage lending.
The Fed has roughly tripled the amount of dollars and credit in circulation just since 1990. Housing prices have risen dramatically not because of simple supply and demand, but because the Fed literally created demand by making the cost of borrowing money artificially cheap. When credit is cheap, individuals tend to borrow too much and spend recklessly.

Ron Paul: A Dark Hourse Shines and Granny Warriors RV
Mar 18th
I was perusing the Ron Paul related blogs, and came across the following two from the Ron Paul For President 08 blog:
A Dark Horse Shines from Common Sense, about how Pajamas Media removed Ron Paul because they thought there was spam voting going on, though they didn't remove other candidates or their votes, who had the same thing. Also how Ron Paul is basically an outsider to the Republican party and is largely ignored by them, the media, conservative and otherwise, and so forth.
Granny Warriors are set to have their RV professionally painted in support of Ron Paul. Check out their letter at the blog for details on their support of Ron and their plans.
Freedom Under Siege by Ron Paul
Mar 16th
The Daily Paul is scanning Ron Paul's 1988 book, Freedom Under Siege. The 10 page introduction itself is worth the read.
Also out now is A Foreign Policy of Freedom, his new book on his views on foreign policy.
Not related to the books, but related to Ron Paul, I enjoyed reading Ten Reasons Why Ron Paul Will Likely be President. I liked #9: "Ron Paul has the Libertarian vote locked up." This is true, and I have to really hope the Libertarian party pushes their members to vote for Ron Paul in the primaries for their state. Even if they run a candidate of their own in the election, they surely have to recognize the value he brings to the table.
Drop your partisanship mindset. Vote for principles, not party. Vote for Ron Paul in 2008.
Mar 14th
The title is a quote from the end of the article that I quote in part below:
Allow me to tell you about a worthwhile man for the Presidency of the United States. He's an experienced Congressman from Texas, an important member of a major Congressional committee, and a gynecologist by trade. He has voted consistently against every single war supporting initiative, all the way back to Bill Clinton's "Iraq Liberation Act" that Bush has used to justify invading Iraq. He was a fierce opponent of the Bush Administration, even in the days after September 11th when so many other politicians kowtowed before the Almighty Executive. He has introduced legislation that calls for the decriminalization of non-drug hemp farming and other acts that cut funding for a plethora of government programs. He voted against all forms of the PATRIOT Act and has gone against his party so often that they can never rely on him for a vote unless the legislation in question is strictly Constitutional and ethical (which is rare, considering the party). This man has even stood his ground against the wave of "Support Our Troops!" propaganda, voting against every war bill even while being attacked for not "providing armor" to G.I.'s in Iraq and other such nonsense, becoming one of only four members in Congress to have voted against every war funding bill since the invasion of Iraq.
Who is this man? Is it Barak Obama, who has no experience as a statesman and wouldn't know Constitutional legislation if it slapped him? Is it Hillary Clinton, who suffers similar inabilities at obeying Federal Law and voted to invade Iraq? Perhaps it's Biden, Dodd, or one of the other no-name candidates that have filed to run as a Democrat in 2008 and have also proved themselves to be sheep in the face of a warmongering President? One way or another, such an anti-war candidate must surely be a Democrat, right?
Wrong.
The only person that is considering running in 2008 that has consistently been against the war and all unConstitutional Federal spending or actions is Representative Ron Paul, from Texas. Dr. Paul is, unfortunately for some, a Republican.

It’s Official Ron Paul to Run
Mar 13th
It's official now, Ron Paul is moving past the exploratory stage to official candidate stage. America's best hope is now an official candidate, so get the word out and let everybody know. If you can, contribute as much as you can at his official site. (There is a CafePress site promoting him, but it isn't ran by his Exploratory Committee. I haven't been in touch with the owner of the cafepress site yet to see how much of what they get goes to the campaign, though I would guess some of it does, and it still gets the name out there which is the big thing.)
Here is a video of him making the official announcement on C-SPAN:

Two great unofficial blogs for promoting Ron Paul:
Rescue US
Ron Paul for President
Via those, I see he is now in 6th place. Hopefully as more American's know him and his positions he'll gain more support since I think that is the way that most Republican's want to see the party go, and he would probably get most of the libertarian votes as well (except those who strictly vote Libertarian). I think he could win the office as well if the Republican party is smart enough to run him.
Ohio's primary is (currently) March 4th, 2008. I need to get some yard signs now...
There is a small chance the primary may move to February 5th since so many other states are moving to that date and the nomination process will be over by March 4th, and moving it will make Ohio's needs more important during the nomination process, not just the general election.

Good Article on Libertarians
Mar 9th
There is a good article on Libertarians... not the party so much , but those of us who believe in personal freedom and capitalism. The article points out how progressives (Democrats and others on the left) resist capitalism, despite the fact it is responsible for laying the ground work that made minority rights and feminism come to be.
The main focus of the article however is the ever widening gap between Libertarians and their former allies in the Republican party. As the Republicans move further and further to the right, the article wonders if the Libertarians are better allies with the Liberals (much like the old Cato Unbound issue Should Libertarians Vote Democrat, which this article references). I would argue that the Democrats are too Fascist with economic and policy reforms to trust too much. While I have very little problem with his proposed compromises, I doubt those on the left would be willing to move in that direction. Seriously, it would be great if Obama was willing to move in the directions that Brink Lindsey talks about in this article, if he fully did, and supported gun rights (which he does not and his stance makes him unvotable for me), drug law reform or better yet, repeal, and a few other key issues then he would have to be considered. The article is correct in that entitlement reform would be the hardest to get the left to compromise on, and correct it is very sorely needed.
Speaking of Obama, I have to say that he is probably the Democrats best choice, despite his horrid stance on gun control. Hillary is too polarizing. Biden is probably the only electable candidate they have beyond Obama, I don't think the public would go for most of the others unless they were a running mate. The question is who as a running mate? Clinton on the ticket might just polarize it too much, but then again, it might help, hard to tell. I would think the likely direction, if the one didn't pick the other, is Dodd or Edwards, I don't think any of the others could help enough, and some would hurt the ticket.
On the Republican side, Ron Paul would be my favorite choice, but doesn't have the name recognition to win, which is really sad, as he is probably the best choice of any candidate out there in any of the parties. We have to pray it isn't McCain. I don't think it'll be Brownback, but will be Rudy Giuliani who has the name recognition and most of what else is needed to win. None of the candidates will win on their own, but will need a strong running mate. Giuliani's record on free speech, opposing drug reform and support for strong gun control make him a bad choice (though the Conservatives tend not to support drug reform anyhow, so I doubt that issue would be problem for them) and the media will have a field day with his winning the Muzzle Award for life. My guess is that it will be McCain or Giuliani with the other as the running mate. Again their best choice is Ron Paul with a big name as a running mate (though I would take one of the big names with Ron Paul as a running mate)... actually Ron Paul as a running mate would draw in the Libertarian vote, even more so if he was the Presidential candidate so long as they big name running mate wasn't to far off.
