Cool Tool of the Moment
Mar 6th, 2008 by Brian A. Thomas
I noticed at work the other day that the new version Microsoft Word had some cool bibliography tools and when I got home I checked out if OpenOffice had something similar. OpenOffice is like Microsoft Office, nearly as powerful and full featured, but free. For 99.99% of users out there, OpenOffice will fit their needs. Anyhow, I saw that the bibliography features are fairly basic at the moment, but more advanced features are coming this year (2008).
Zotero is a free Firefox extension that enables Firefox to become a full featured research tool, and create citations in a number of formats. They have plugins for OpenOffice and MS Word so that you can import your citations directly. If you are witting anything that needs to cite sources, than Zotero is a must have tool. Check out the Zotero Quick Start Guide for more details on how it works. Even if you are using the new version of Word, or once the new full bibliography enhancements come to OpenOffice, I see Zotero being a valuable tool.
