Great New Zealand Video

Here is a great commercial for New Zealand… God I want to visit so bad for a month or two…

The opening scene was done by Weta Digital, the people behind the The Lord of the Rings special effects. Of course as you may know, Lord of the Rings was filmed in New Zealand, though I had an interest in New Zealand before that, those movies cemented the idea that a serious amount of time has to be spent there.
Warning, huge and near impossible fantasy vacation ahead…

I just did an airfare calculation via Air New Zealand, premium economy class (hey you are in a plane for 30 hours, you don’t want basic economy) for a March flight there and an April flight home, is $8,742…now that is Cincinnati to Wellington and back again. Basic economy drops you to $5,357… those both are round trip prices. Stopping at Auckland does save a bit, but I would probably want to stay in Wellington anyhow, so may as well pay the extra $300 or so to go there. 🙂
I just did a full vacation package via Expedia, from March 30th to April 20th, airfare, hotel and a car… though I don’t see a car icon… There are 3 packages that show prices, the other hotels are booked, $6964 for the cheapest, $8082 for a nicer hotel and $11276 for the premium hotel. All those prices include airfare so obviously booking via the airline isn’t the way to go… Those are from Cleveland… I wonder why everyone is booked? The parking at the $8082 one is extra ($16 to $25 a day depending on the lot, it’s not clear if that is in US or NZ dollars)… but it has high speed internet access in public area for a surcharge… oy… the cheap one has free parking and dial up internet… the expensive one has high speed internet in the room, with a microwave and refrigerator and free parking… guess that is the way to go… 🙂
Even a 2 week stay, will run $6449 at the cheap end and go to $8964 at the high end.
All those are for two adults and a child.
None of those include all the extra you will need such as money for food, gas, entertainment, souvenirs, and all that travel expense stuff… and as I don’t see a car icon, that may not include a car…
Clearly a trip to New Zealand isn’t happening soon…
As an aside, leaving Canton doesn’t add more the $10 to the package, so it probably would be worth just leaving Canton, but leaving from Columbus saves $30.
Oh to dream…
