I reported a short time ago that the Journalist Loophole was close to closing, well, it’s official now, it is closed, or at least will be in 90 days. Taft actually signed the HB9 into law. Perhaps it was fear of another veto override.
Finally, in 90 days, newspapers won’t be able to demand the name of everyone who has a CCW and print the whole list with all their information. Things go back to the way the law was originally intended, if a gun is used in a crime, they reporter can check to see if the specific person has a CCW or not, and may not record any information they see on the record, just know if the person did or not. Of course since CCW permit holders are law abiding citizens, it is a moot point. A criminal isn’t going through the trouble of getting a CCW, and won’t pay attention to a no CCW sign.
Unfortunately a few other action items will expire at the end of December as the legislators didn’t move on them enough this term.
They may be reintroduced next term though.

High among the priority items is Stand Your Ground legislation that would stop the duty to run away from a deadly attack first.
That is if somebody uses deadly force against you, you may use deadly force in your defense against them without having to first run away.
Next would be Ohio’s version of the Katrina Bill which stops them from confiscating weapons in a state of emergency as they did in New Orleans. For those who don’t know, soon after Katrina, the police went to every house and confiscated weapons, even if they were letting the people stay home, leaving these people vulnerable to armed and dangerous looters.
Not up this term, but hopefully expected soon, is the allowing of CCWs in Class D facilities. Class D would be places like Olive Garden, Pizza Hut and the like that allow the sale of alcohol, but get less than 30 or 40% (I can’t remember the exact percent) of their income from it. Carrying while under the influence would be a crime, which most people see as being fairly obvious.
