I Want FiOS
Sep 16th, 2006 by Brian A. Thomas
Unfortunately for me, I do not live in a Verizon service area so I can’t get FiOS TV or FiOS Internet. Being in a SBC service zone sucks big time now.
What is FiOS? It is a fiber optic service direct to your home. From the fiber optic box, it then goes to a regular CAT 5 line for your Internet (there is a wireless option) and Coax line for your cable. It is many times faster then cable, such as I am using now for Internet, and in terms of TV, it is cheaper and better then cable. More channels, more and better High Definition, and at a price cable can’t match, or at least won’t match. In my post prior to this one, I posted a speed performance, imagine that several times faster at the same price.
SBC/AT&T has a somewhat similar service called Lightspeed, though the final name probably will be different when it finally starts rolling out. However, they don’t take the fiber to the home, so you loose a lot of the potential bandwidth. They use Fiber-to-the-Node (FTTN), while Verizon is using, Fiber-to-the Premises (FTTP). Of course it probably is still better then cable, so I would probably go for it after they add High Definition.
If only this was a Verizon area… of course if it was, who knows how long it would be until they rolled it out in this area. Heck, it may be a while before Lightspeed rolls out in this area.
Come on Verizon. Overlap AT&T’s coverage zone some and come to the Akron/Canton area so I can get FiOS. Pretty please with sugar on top…
