Falling Flash Memory Prices
Aug 25th, 2006 by Brian A. Thomas
One of the problems with my digital camera is that I currently only have a 32MB Compact Flash card, which fills up fairly quickly. When I got the camera, flash memory prices were a bit higher then they are now. Now a 256MB card, 8 times what I have now can be had for less then $25, and 512MB can be had for under $40 going all the way up to the high end of 4GB for $200. Of course those prices are for standard Compact Flash, for the faster cards there is a $10 to $20 premium for the next level up with another $20 to $50 or so more for the pro-level cards. Given what we use the camera for and the kind of camera we have, I would think the standard Compact Flash is fine. If we had a nice Digital SLR like Nikon’s new D80, then perhaps things would be different (with no question of things being differant at the D200 level, where anything less then the pro-level cards would be crazy). But at our level, the standard cards do fine. Perhaps I’ll have to add that to my Christmas list… say 512MB…
