Thunderbird is Go

I have long advocated Mozilla’s Firefox over Microsoft’s Internet Explorer for web browsing. It renders web pages the way they are supposed to render, or at least closer to the way they are supposed to, than IE, and is safer.
When it comes to Office applications, I suggest Open Office over Microsoft Office. It does nearly everything MS Office does, but does it for free. Very few people will have needs that Open Office can’t meet that MS Office does.
I can now recommend Mozilla’s Thunderbird email client over Microsoft Outlook. Finally with the WebMail extension to Thunderbird, you can access you Hotmail, Lycos, Yahoo, GMail and several other web based emails. The only shortfall from Outlook is the calender. If you fully use the calender function of Outlook, you may need to wait a few months yet until Mozilla’s calendar project gets a little further along. Also, I don’t know how it’s contact management power compares to Outlooks. It certainly beats Outlook Express. Anyhow, it is free, so you can’t go wrong by giving it a try. It will import your Outlook mail and address book, which makes moving over to it easier.
