To the Mayor of New Orleans – God Didn’t Do It

Edit: I saw on CNN Headline News this morning that the Mayor of New Orleans apologized for his comments of God being mad at America and said that if he could take anything back from that speech, he would take out all his God references. He also apologized for saying the city would be “chocolate again.”

The Mayer of New Orleans apparently feels that God is mad at America.
He said:

Surely God is mad at America. He sent us hurricane after hurricane after hurricane, and it’s destroyed and put stress on this country.

God didn’t send the hurricanes. God is a God of love and mercy and He couldn’t send a hurricane or any other form of judgment thanks to Christ. The thief, is the one who comes to steal, kill and destroy. This isn’t to say that we can blame Satan either for a natural weather phenomenon, but he wold be to blame long before God.
Don’t blame God, blame the weather. Hurricanes happen. They have been happening for eons. They will continue to happen, unless we devise a way to control the weather. Recall that we are still warming up from the last ice age, the fairly early stages at that, and as the Earth gets warmer, hurricanes will likely increase. Mankind, debatablely, though likely, speeding that warming process up, to which degree we’ll leave for another debate. The point being, weather happens. It isn’t an “act of God,” it is simply the weather being weather. God doesn’t send hurricanes, earthquakes or any other form of judgment anymore. That ended with the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. We are under mercy and grace now.
