The 2nd Edition of Visual C# 2005 How to Program (2nd Edition) (How to Program) has been out for a while now. You can’t get much better then the Deitel books for learning programming.
Also on deck to be learned by myself is ASP.Net. I am torn between Beginning ASP .NET 2.0 E-Commerce in C# 2005: From Novice to Professional (Novice to Professional) and Beginning ASP.NET 2.0 in C#: From Novice to Professional (Beginning: from Novice to Professional) as my foundations to really learn ASP.Net. I am not sure how fully the Deitel C# book covers ASP.net.
Knowing both is beneficial in the job market. In the Cleveland area, an ASP.Net/C# programmer starts at $60,000. Starts! I could live with $60,000 a year very well.
A reminder, the Visual Studio Express Editions are out from Microsoft, and for a year, free. That is you can download it for free for a year. So long as you dowload it in that time, you get to keep it for free, not that it will only last for a year.
Despite the fact I had to uninstall the Beta edition before installing the final version, it retained the guidelines hidden feature I talked about before.
